We are blessed with our location, at the edge of the Comeragh Mountains, with its many scenic walking routes, including the Cruachan Trail which starts just a 5 minute walk from our gate. It takes you on a 3 hour return walk to the summit of the Kilnafrehan Mountain and affords a breathtaking 360 degree view of the Waterford Coastline, our local town Dungarvan, as well as the Comeragh and Knockmealdown Mountains. You cannot walk these mountains, without coming back, feeling better than when you left! For the tougher trails, guided Walking Tours such as Muddy Boots can be pre-booked.
Bridgie Terries Bar & Restaurant
Our local pub is Bridgie Terries Bar & Restaurant which is just a 5 minute drive away. This friendly, family run establishment, offers delicious home cooked food and boasts an extensive Beer Garden with a large, covered eating space. Being in such easy reach of us, this is an obvious choice after a hard days hiking.
A short drive from us, is Colligan Woods which is a wonderful place to relax, unwind and to walk your dog. You can follow the beautiful river, which meanders through the shady forest trails and then you have the option of taking a mix of routes up and around the main path. With its canopy of trees, this is simply a wonderful place to visit, rain or shine.
Whether you walk, run or cycle the entire, or part of the old 46km railway track from Dungaravan to Waterford, you will not forget the Waterford Greenway. It has been named as Ireland’s favourite adventure! Its stunning scenery with highlights ranging from the “kinda spooky” Ballyvoille tunnel, the three viaducts, its sweeping views of the sea , mountains and rivers, You will have a day out to remember. For parking we would recommend Dungarvan Greenway Carpark or Durrow Greenway Carpark. You can also stop for refreshments along the way, with coffee and delicious food at the Railway Cottage cafe or Coach House Cafe.
We are conveniently situated only 10 minutes from Dungarvan. This picturesque historic port town has many of its thriving cafes, restaurants and bars situated along the quayside of its harbour. Here you can find some of the best restaurants in the country, with every kind of food on offer from tapas, fine dining, hearty award winning pub food and local trawlers in Helvick, bringing seafood straight to your table and all making the most of the finest local produce. Every Thursday the town also hosts the Dungarvan Farmers Market, selling a wide variety of quality local food. Whether just soaking up the bustling atmosphere in a cafe, shopping or discovering the towns gems like Dungarvan Castle, St Augustine’s Abbey across the bay or the local Museum and Arts Centre, there is plenty to do here. Sample the local culture at night in the lively bars, with the best of traditional live music. Dungarvan has a wonderful mix of old and new and really has got something to offer everyone.
The wonderful historic town of Lismore is just 30 minutes from us. With its stunning Castle situated on the banks of the River Black Water set high amongst the trees, it is a beautiful place to visit, with various events being held throughout the year. Please see the Lismore Heritage Centre for further information. There is also a farmers market just outside the Castle every Sunday. across the bay or the local Museum and Arts Centre, there is plenty to do here. 15 minutes drive away from us is the town of Cappoquin, through which runs the stunning Blackwater River. It is also home to Barrons Bakery, a small shop in the heart of village. Not only do they make the most delicious baked goods and breads in their traditional ovens, they also have a café and give tours of the Bakery.
A 20 min drive from here is the pretty village of Villierstown, where you’ll find Blackwater Eco Tours, offering riverboat trips, Kayaking and forest walking trails. They offer fun ways to experience the un-spoilt natural beauty and unique historic heritage of the Blackwater River Valley which is the heart of West Waterford.
Ring (An Rinn)
The beautiful sea view with which we are blessed from our fields, looks out to Ring; a small gaelic speaking region, that boasts the most spectacular coastal scenery. It is home also to Solas Na Mar, where you can indulge in a Seaweed Bath or Sauna. Why not treat yourself to this uniquely luxurious treatment whilst you are away or it can be the perfect gift, with which to surprise your loved ones.
